The Town of East Fremantle has taken another step towards environmental sustainability by endorsing a new policy requiring all future pools and spas to utilise water saving covers.

The new policy, that was adopted by Council on 16 February 2021, aims to reduce future water consumption and evaporation levels across the Town of East Fremantle by enforcing the use of water saving pool and spa covers/blankets for all new pools and spas installed in residential properties.

In accordance with the National Construction Code, the Town of East Fremantle will require that all future outdoor swimming pools associated with a Class 1 and Class 2 building be fitted with an appropriate pool/spa cover. - see the policy for a complete description of Class 1 and Class 2 properties.

This policy does not apply to pre-existing pools/spas, indoor pools or public pools prior to the time this report was accepted by Council, however, residents with existing pools and spas are also encouraged to install covers where practicable to reduce water consumption and save money.

The policy is available to be read online, and anyone seeking clarification on the new policy is encouraged to contact us by calling 9339 9339 or by sending an email to admin@eastfremantle.wa.gov.au
