Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer (PSHB)
As of 1 July 2025, Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) begun their transition to management phase which means they are shifting their strategy from eradicating PSHB to a long-term management approach.
Under the transition, DPIRD will be decreasing their surveillance within the inner metropolitan area and will no longer be taking samples or conducting diagnostic testing on suspected infected trees in this zone.
Instead, they're intensifying their surveillance efforts in the outer metropolitan area. This strategic shift is crucial for protecting WA's regional and horticultural industries and stop the spread of PSHB.
Public reporting continues to be an important part of their surveillance system for PSHB. These reports provide DPIRD with valuable data that help them monitor the spread. You can report sightings in the following ways.
DPIRD will continue to assess reports. If a suspected infestation is correctly identified, you will be given advice on the recommended treatment steps to help limit further spread.
