Young people will soon be able to enjoy healthier food and drink options at Fremantle City Football Club thanks to a $4,000 grant from Healthway.

Fremantle City Football Club, with support from the South Metropolitan Health Service and the Town of East Fremantle, has been successful in receiving funds from Healthway, as part of the winter round of the Healthy Sporting Club program.

The grant funding will enable the Club to complete the ‘Fuel to Go & Play Community venues’ online training and work with the WA School Canteen Association Inc. (WASCA) to develop an enticing healthy menu.

Fuel to Go & Play aims to create healthier food environments in community venues with a ‘traffic light system’ of rating food and drinks, based on their nutritional value.

Sporting clubs, like the Fremantle City Football Club, will aim to create a menu with at least 40 per cent green and less than 30 per cent red items.

Jelena Kaddour, Fremantle City Football Club Food and Beverage Manager said, “As the 2020 season is about to begin, we are very excited to have this opportunity to work on our menu and look forward to providing our players, members and spectators with a healthy food options soon.”

Mayor of East Fremantle, Jim O’Neill said: “The Fremantle City Football Club is to be congratulated on their commitment to making healthier food and drink choices available at their Club.”

“It has never been more important to provide kids with exercise and friendship through club sports, and fuelling their performance with nutritious food, so they can begin start making good choices they can continue into adulthood’, he said.
