A major solar rollout has been completed across key Town of East Fremantle facilities, with the installation of solar panels expected to reduce the Town’s carbon footprint ahead of summer.
Solar panels and battery systems have now been installed at the Town Hall and Operations Depot, along with solar panels at Dovenby House.
Solar and battery systems were also installed at the East Fremantle Community Park and will be operational in 2027, once fully connected by Western Power.
Town of East Fremantle Mayor Tony Natale said the installation was a practical step towards reducing the Town’s environmental footprint and leading by example.
“This will improve energy efficiency and reduce electricity costs, which can fund other sustainable actions in the future,” he said.
“By leading by example, we hope to encourage residents to take up renewal energy sources on their properties to help reduce emissions in the Town.”
Originally identified in the Town’s Climate Emergency Action Plan 2023 – 2033, the project was incorporated as a key priority for the 2026/27 financial year in the Town’s new Council Plan.
“This project helps deliver outcome five of our Council Plan by supporting a healthy and sustainable natural environment,” added Mayor Natale.
“By generating cleaner energy, we’re taking meaningful action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”
The $796,000 project was funded by a Community Energy Upgrade Fund grant from the Government and the Town’s Sustainability and Environmental Reserve.
Mayor Natale thanked the Commonwealth for its support.
“We’re proud to deliver this project through a partnership between the Australian Government. Together, we're making smart investments in renewable energy that will provide environmental and financial benefits for years to come.”
