Ready to re-think rubbish this National Recycling Week?

East Fremantle and Fremantle residents are invited to celebrate National Recycling Week, with five hands-on events designed to help reduce waste and teach new skills.

On Monday 9 November, Fremantle Recycling Centre, which is a shared service between the City of Fremantle and the Town of East Fremantle, will open its gates from 10am to 12 noon for Have a Go Volunteering.

Residents can help save stationery from landfill by sorting donated goods and school supplies on behalf of Give Write, to support children in need.

On Tuesday 10 November, Fremantle Recycling Centre will host a free one-hour guided walking tour of the centre and its Containers for Change refund point. Residents can learn how and where to recycle over 35 household items that can’t be placed in the kerbside bin.

On Wednesday 11 November, young people aged up to five are invited to attend Buster X National Recycle Week at Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre. This free event will feature fun recycling games, creative activities and a visit by a waste truck.

For those curious about what happens to your recycling after it is collected, there will be a chance to join a Material Recovery Facility Tour in Guildford on Thursday 12 November.

Town of East Fremantle Mayor Tony Natale said National Recycling Week was a great time for residents to learn about, and improve, their waste and recycling habits.

“We are pleased to once again partner with the City of Fremantle to offer some unique and educational experiences,” he said.

To end the 2026 celebrations, yoga enthusiasts can roll out their mats for a recycling themed yoga session and free hot beverage at the East Fremantle Community Park on Saturday 14 November from 11.30am.

City of Fremantle Mayor Ben Lawver said the yoga session would incorporate recycling themed prompts and sustainability tips.

“Whether you’re a regular yogi or trying yoga for the first time, all fitness levels are welcome,” he added. “Attendees can also go in the draw to win a recycled yoga mat door prize.”

“National Recycling Week is a timely reminder for our community to reduce, reuse, repurpose or recycle to keep as many materials out of landfill as possible,” Mayor Lawver said.

National Recycling Week events are proudly hosted by the City of Fremantle and Town of East Fremantle, and form part of the Town of East Fremantle’s 2026/27 community events program.

Bookings can be made via the Humanitix website, search ‘Event’s Calendar’ on the Town’s website for individual events and links or visit the ‘What’s On’ section of the City’s website.
