In recognition of the Town’s commitment to sustainable water management and urban greening, Town of East Fremantle has been re-endorsed as a Gold Waterwise Council for the third consecutive year.
During the 2024-2025 financial year, the Town delivered a range of practical initiatives in line with its Climate Emergency Action Plan 2023-2033 and Waterwise Council Action Plan.
This included planting 123 trees and 1,820 understorey waterwise plants across East Fremantle, along with 130 street trees.
The Town re-partnered with APACE Nursery for its annual native plant subsidy program, encouraging residents to create water-efficient gardens and verges while enhancing local biodiversity.
It also continued to encourage sustainable landscaping and gardening through its Waterwise Verge Policy and Verge Greening Guidelines, along with ReWild educational workshops.
Town of East Fremantle Mayor Tony Natale said he was proud that the Town was re-endorsed as a Gold Waterwise Council.
“This achievement reflects the significant hard work undertaken to reach this standard, and the even greater commitment required to maintain it,” he said.
“Our continued success demonstrates the strength of our Climate Emergency Action Plan and Climate Emergency Strategy.
Mayor Natale said the Town had consistently delivered on key actions and ensured sustainability remained a core focus.
“The re-endorsement reinforces not only the Town’s responsibility, but everyone’s responsibility to conserve water for future generations,” he added.
“I commend everyone on their ongoing efforts to be more waterwise.”
The Town was also nominated for Water Corporation’s Platinum Waterwise Council Award, recognising the Town’s continued initiatives to sustainable water management.
