New events program celebrates the places and people of East Freo

Published on Friday, 21 August 2026 at 9:25:12 AM

A new community event program will bring East Fremantle’s favourite places to life, creating more opportunities to connect and celebrate.

Residents and visitors to the Town can look forward to eight new events and activations, and some familiar activities, after the Town’s inaugural Events Strategy 2026-2031 was adopted by Council this week.

Town of East Fremantle Mayor Tony Natale welcomed the events calendar for the 2026/27 financial year.

“We’re introducing activities that will bring our community together in some of the Town’s most loved places,” he said.

Mayor Natale said the calendar represented a departure from the Town’s traditional approach to event delivery following an extensive consultation period.

“Encouraged by community feedback, the Town is trying several new concepts, with the events calendar set to evolve over coming years,” he added.

“The Town is committed to being agile and to learning along the way.”

This financial year, a diverse and welcoming mix of celebrations are planned, including a riverside nature morning; artists’ workshops; sustainability education; and a neighbourhood picnic.

From George Street to the river foreshore, the calendar reflects the Town’s heritage, unique vibrancy, and the proud values that connect our community.

Mayor Natale said there was something for everyone, with the flagship summer event, Bites and Beats, returning to the East Fremantle Community Park after its debut in February 2026.

“Our community loves to come together, and the program offers more opportunities than ever to connect, learn from one another and to welcome visitors to our town,” he said.

“Almost all of the events are free, thanks to a $110,000 Council contribution and the support of our valued partners and I hope to see you there!”

Events Strategy 2026-2031

The Town’s Events Strategy 2026-2031 will guide the way the Town plans, attracts and supports events that:

  • Contribute to the community’s happiness
  • Celebrate local character
  • Create social, economic and cultural benefits for East Fremantle.

The Strategy is anchored by four guiding principles: connecting the community; celebrating East Freo; sustainability and safety; and collaboration and partnerships.

It also supports four objectives:

  1. Events are accessible, inclusive and represent our community.
  2. Local businesses and groups are engaged in delivering our events
  3. Events are financially viable and environmentally conscious
  4. Events are aligned with the Town’s vision and strategic direction

Where possible, the Town will take a place-based approach when selecting locations to host community events, with some locations utlised on an annual or biennial basis.

While the Events Strategy will be reviewed every four years, the Events Calendar will be updated annually.
