East Fremantle is the best place to live and to own and operate a business.

That’s according to the 2025 MARKYT Community Scorecard results, which were released this week.

In August, the Town of East Fremantle commissioned independent research company, CATALYSE, to conduct a community survey in East Fremantle, and to benchmark our local government against other local governments.

The Town was ranked overall as the top place to live, with a score of 92 out of 100 (18 points above the industry average).

Mayor Jim O’Neill said Council and staff had continued to work together to improve all facets of the organisation since the last survey was completed in 2023.

“I am thrilled to announce that for the second consecutive survey round, the Town has been voted as the top place to live,” he said.

“This outstanding result is testament to the dedicated Council and Town staff who have demonstrated that together with our community, we can achieve initiatives that meet East Fremantle's current and future needs.”

Mr O’Neill said East Fremantle was known as an inclusive and community-focused place.

“Our residents and ratepayers are always keen to support initiatives that make our Town a wonderful place to live, work and visit,” he said.

“This includes care for our local environment, sustainability, protection and enhancement of our river and foreshore, and looking out for one another.”

East Fremantle was also ranked number one overall by its local business owners who think it is the best place to own or operate a business.

“With an industry leading score of 75, this rating was 12 points about the sector average, which is a great result,” Mayor O’Neill added.

Among the survey results, the Town of East Fremantle rated as the industry leader in five service areas:

  • Community engagement and communications
  • Environmental management and conservation
  • River and foreshore management
  • Environmental health services
  • Waste management

The community also identified six priorities for Council to enhance over the next 10 years:

  1. Deliver better footpaths and cycleways
  2. Local festivals, community markets and events
  3. Community safety and crime prevention
  4. Enhancing streetscapes, trees and verges
  5. Addressing parking concerns
  6. Leading climate change

Mayor O’Neill thanked all the community members who responded to the survey.

“The information we received will help the Town assess and plan the services we provide in the future,” he said.

The Town will draft a Council Plan in 2026, with community workshops and further consultation to follow.
