Football fans who bring their four-legged supporters to the East Fremantle Community Park on WAFL Match Days will now be required to keep their dogs on a leash in the dog exercise area.
Following community consultation, Council recently agreed to amend the licence agreement with the East Fremantle Football Club. Under the agreement the Club has the right to occupy and use parts of the park on WAFL Match Days, including the dog exercise area.
On WALF Match Days dogs will now be required to be on a leash and under effective control. On non- WAFL Match Days they will be allowed to run free off-leash.
Town of East Fremantle Mayor Tony Natale said the restriction supported a safe and well-managed environment for visitors, dog owners and their pets.
“On WAFL Match Days, the Park experiences a significant increase in visitors, infrastructure and activity,” he said.
“Introducing the temporary on-lead requirement is an important measure to support safety and crowd management.
“It also provides a clear and consistent control during these defined periods, while maintaining off-lead access at all other times.”
The next WAFL match day will be held at the East Fremantle Community Park on Saturday 11 July and Sunday 12 July.
