Update: Thursday 24 July, please note the community workshop is now fully booked out.

Residents and businesses in the Plympton area of East Fremantle will soon be able to help shape an inspiring, community-led vision for one of East Fremantle’s well-known streets.

The Town of East Fremantle, in conjunction with internationally renowned placemakers Village Well, are inviting community members in the George Street area to create a shared vision for the street.

The vision will help inform a Community Action Plan, a document developed by the community for the community.

The opportunity follows a presentation to Council in late 2024 from community members seeking support to develop a vision for the George Street area.

Mayor Jim O’Neill welcomed the opportunity for people living and working in the Plympton area to unlock new ideas for the much-loved street.

“I want to thank the community members who presented to Council, for their passion and vision to create a Plan and roadmap that’s important to our community,” he said.

“This is an exciting new era in the street’s history for the community to come together to co-create a bold and meaningful vision for George Street’s future. And to celebrate what makes the street special.

Mayor O’Neill said while the Council may be a supporting partner, where possible the plan would be designed to be owned and actioned by the community.

“It will be the community’s street, ideas and leadership that will bring this vision to life,” he added.

“I encourage people in the area to share their ideas, stories, and local knowledge at the community workshop on Tuesday 29 July to help shape a vision and plan that belongs to you.”

The workshop will be held at the East Fremantle Town Hall, 135 Canning Highway on Tuesday 29 July from 6pm to 8pm.

Spaces are limited. Please RSVP to admin@eastfremantle.wa.gov.au by Friday 25 July.
