East Fremantle Junior Cricket Club celebrated a valuable win off the field during its 2025-2026 season when the club was awarded a funding boost to purchase much-needed cricket balls for training and competitions.
The Club, which is based at Henry Jeffery Oval, received a $2,000 Community Assistance Grant from the Town of East Fremantle to purchase 48 new balls.
East Fremantle Junior Cricket Club Treasurer Ryan Dalby said the grant was an enormous help to the Club.
“Cricket balls cost the Club around $10,000 each year,” he said. “The average cost of one ball is around $42, so the grant really helped ease that financial pressure for the annual purchase.”
“It has also enabled us to redirect more funds into coaching initiatives and replace old equipment for the kids which meant they could get out on the field with quality equipment and enjoy a full, fun cricket season.”
The Town’s Community Assistance Grant funding provides benefits to residents through recreational, sporting, social or cultural means. The grants contribute towards physical items such as uniforms and sports equipment.
In the 2025/26 financial year, over $13,000 in Community Assistance Grants were awarded to eight community groups.
Town of East Fremantle Mayor Tony Natale said the grants program empowered volunteers and community and sporting groups.
“Our community grants program is now open, and I encourage all local community and sporting groups to apply,” he said.
“These grants strengthen neighbourhood connections and help clubs deliver the programs and facilities that make our Town such a vibrant and inclusive place to live.
“Every dollar invested through this program goes directly toward supporting the people and organisations that bring our community to life.”
Applications for the 2026/27 grant funding round close at 4pm on Friday 1 May. Visit the Town’s website to find out more, and to apply.
