JOHN TONKiN PARK RIVERSIDE CLEANUP - NATIONAL RECYCLING WEEK - NOVEMBER 2019

The Town of East Fremantle undertook a Riverside Cleanup on Saturday the 16 November at John Tonkin Reserve.

The Cleanup was undertaken in partnership with the Murdoch Dive Team, UWA underwater club and UWA Guild.

Divers recovered a variety of material that had been dumped or made its way into the river. This included car tyres, ropes, beer bottles, fishing nets and much more. Students from UWA assisted in a foreshore cleanup with staff from the Town and SMRC sorting the incoming waste.

This information will be provided to local Sailing clubs and groups to highlight the importance of correct waste disposal. The Cleanup removed 615 items from the reserve which have now correctly been disposed of.  See the graphs below that outline the dominant land waste and the dominant water waste as well as some photos.

Our thanks go out to everyone involved on the day.
