Town welcomes elimination final at East Fremantle Community Park

The Town of East Fremantle is thrilled that our local WAFL team, the East Fremantle Football Club (Sharks), will host an elimination final game at their home ground on Sunday 31 August.

The East Fremantle community is advised that in coming days, the grounds may look a little different as a temporary fence is erected around the oval. Access to some of the East Fremantle Community Park may also be restricted, as detailed below under What to expect at the precinct this weekend.

The Town is also aware of misleading speculation this week about a permanent fence at East Fremantle Community Park.

The underlying principle of the redeveloped East Fremantle Community Park precinct – backed by extensive consultation with key stakeholders – was that that it would be a shared, community precinct. This is a new model for Western Australian football and there are no plans for a permanent fence to be installed at the precinct.

However, the sub-lease, signed by the East Fremantle Football Club, the Town and Belgravia Leisure, outlines certain circumstances when the Club can erect temporary fencing at the East Fremantle Community Park. One circumstance is when the Sharks host a final, as the fencing is a requirement of Western Australian Football League regulations.

The Town apologises for any inconvenience a temporary fence may cause users of the East Fremantle Community Park, and for the short notice. The need for a temporary fence was only able to be confirmed once the Sharks won their game on Saturday 23 August to secure an elimination final.

We wish the Sharks all the best for their matches on Sunday.

Matchday line up:

WAFL Colts Game: 8:50am West Perth v Swan Districts | Elimination Final

WAFL Reserves Game: 11:25am South Fremantle v Swan Districts | Qualifying Final

WAFL League Game: 2:10pm East Fremantle v Perth | Elimination Final

What to expect around the East Fremantle Community Park this weekend:

  • The temporary fencing means matchday, Sunday 31 August, will be a ticketed event. There will be a fee to enter the facility to watch the football. This is a WAFL requirement as they collect the gate fees.

  • The temporary fencing will mean that on matchday, members of the public will not be able to access most of the facility – including the dog park, skate park, playground, café, bar and restaurant, unless they’ve purchased a ticket. Other than on match day itself, gaps in the fence will be provided to enable access by members of the public to the facility.

  • Belgravia Leisure is communicating with its B-Active members about what access members will have to the precinct on match day. Please direct any questions to info@bactiveeastfremantle.com.au

  • The temporary fencing can be erected up to 48 hours before the game (i.e. Friday 29 August) and is to be removed no later than 48 hours after the game (i.e. Tuesday 2 September)

  • All of the car parks within the East Fremantle Community Park will be reserved for priority use by the East Fremantle Football Club on matchday

  • Parking around the precinct will be extremely limited. Where possible, local residents are encouraged to walk or cycle to the grounds. Other patrons should consider getting dropped off or using public transport

  • If public transport or getting dropped off is not available for you, football fans can drive and find parking in local streets. Please be mindful of the parking regulations in residential areas and observe any street parking restrictions that are in place. This includes ensuring residents have reasonable access to and from their properties and that driveways are not blocked. Rangers will be patrolling the area

  • A limited number of car parking bays are available at the Town of East Fremantle Town Hall car park (off Council Place in East Fremantle) which is an easy, 10-minute stroll to the ground
