Statement from Town of East Fremantle regarding WA Football decision on fence for WAFL games

Attributable to Mayor Tony Natale:

“WA Football has advised the East Fremantle Football Club that perimeter control is now required in order for WAFL games to continue to be played at East Fremantle Community Park.

This requirement has been imposed by the sport’s governing body, not by the Town.

From the outset, the park was designed and communicated to the community as an open and accessible facility, and that principle remains central to Council’s thinking.

The Town is working closely and constructively with the Club to explore options that meet WA Football’s venue requirements while also respecting the community’s expectations for free and open access.

Any solutions will not restrict day‑to‑day community use of the park and the Town is confident a balanced outcome can be found.

Any proposal will need to be formally considered and approved by Council, and it’s important to be clear that the Town is not responsible for the costs associated with complying with WA Football’s requirements.

The Club will prepare a plan for both WA Football and the Council to consider in the near future."
