East Fremantle residents invited to enjoy Vespers event

Town of East Fremantle is pleased to welcome a free Fremantle Biennale event, Vespers, to John Tonkin Reserve on Saturday 22 November.

Vespers, a sound, music and performance piece, carried across the river and sea, will see the horizon of the Swan River transform into a drifting chorus.

Starting at sunset (6.15pm), a fleet of couta sailing boats will drift downstream, past John Tonkin Reserve, offering a sonic precession shaped by light, weather and water.

Community members are invited to the view Vespers from the grassed and beach areas.

Held every second year, the Town of East Fremantle is proud to once again sponsor the Fremantle Biennale as a Presenting Partner.

Mayor Tony Natale said the Town was always thrilled to support art and cultural events in East Fremantle and surrounding areas.

“The Town values art and culture as a way of celebrating our community’s history and identity,” he said.

“With our wonderful Perth spring weather, this is a great opportunity for families and friends to connect against the backdrop of our beautiful river and park.

“Pack your picnic blanket or camping chair, and relax to the sounds of the drifting chorus, while enjoying a picnic with friends and family.”

Fremantle Biennale reveals and celebrates the cultural, social and historical distinctiveness of the Walyalup (Fremantle) region and will run from 13 to 30 November.

This year’s theme, Sanctuary, invites participants to step into a festival-wide exploration of what it means to seek, shape and share spaces of care, resistance and possibility.
