Playgroups are important for parents and caregivers to connect - and equally for children aged newborn to five to play in a relaxed, safe and well-equipped space.
Felicia Gough, from East Freo Playgroup, says: "Playgroup is lots of fun - you can make lifelong friends. It's great to get out of the house and bring the kids with you."
The number of sessions run each week is testament to the strength and attraction of the East Freo Playgroup, with vacancies available in the following times:
- Mondays 9:30am - 11:30am
- Tuesdays 9:30am - 11:30am
- Wednesdays 9:30am - 11:30am
- Wednesdays 3pm - 5pm
- Thursdays 9:30am - 11:30am
- Thursdays 3pm - 5pm
The playgroup is supported by the Town of East Fremantle, Lotterywest and Playgroup WA.
Its heritage-listed building in Moss Street has just been refurbished with new verandah decking, balustrades, fencing, paving and painting.
You are welcome to attend up to two free trial sessions. A new playground and cafe has just opened next door as part of the development of the East Fremantle Community Park.
The playgroup itself has a large fenced-in outdoor play area with swings, slides, sandpits and playhouses, plus a playroom and shed full of toys and ride-on cars. The low-cost sessions are informal and unstructured, allowing free play for the kids while adults enjoy a well-earned cuppa! Once per term, a special guest will come to entertain the kids and provide some extra excitement.
"We'd like to say a big thanks to the Town of East Fremantle for our refurbishment. Playgroup is such a great inclusive space for all parents and caregivers, and now we have this fantastic space. Thanks very much," said Felicia.
