Local Planning Scheme No. 3 – Amendment No. 15 – Royal George Hotel site

No. 34 (Lot 303) Duke Street, East Fremantle

At the Special Council meeting of 7 June 2017 the Council resolved to adopt the abovementioned Scheme Amendment to supplement the ‘Special Zone - Royal George Hotel’ provisions in the Planning Scheme Text.  The site comprises the Royal George Hotel building and the vacant land at the rear of the site.

The Amendment comprises Scheme Text provisions and development standards relating to restoration/conservation of the Royal George Hotel and redevelopment of the remainder of the site.  An added column in the Zoning Table specifies, for the ‘Special Zone – Royal George Hotel’, the permissibility status for every use listed by the Planning Scheme.  The site and development controls will be added to existing clause 5.9.1 which is headed ‘Special Zone – Royal George Hotel’.  The provisions will relate to land use, heritage conservation, building height, building setbacks, plot ratio, noise management, car parking, traffic management, residential development, public art, landscaping and public spaces. 

It is important to note that specific plans for redevelopment would be the subject of a separate development (planning) application which is not part of the Scheme Amendment.  Council to date has not received detailed development plans.

Submissions on the proposed Scheme Amendment may be made in writing to the Chief Executive Officer, Town of East Fremantle on Submission Form 3A and lodged on or before 11 September 2017.
