MagPIES - SWOOPING

Magpies are protected under the Wildlife Conservation Act and it is illegal to harm them. The Town has no jurisdiction in the care, management or relocation of aggressive magpies during the nesting season. The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions - Parks and Wildlife Service manages native fauna. 

Nesting season usually occurs between August and November. 

The Department recommends wearing sunglasses to conceal your face and eyes. Any concerns can be reported to the Wildcare Helpline on 9474 9055 or the DPAW office website Magpie Alert logs encounters with aggressive magpies across Australia, and allows members of the public to track where the birds may be frequenting.
