Saturday, 2 April 2022, marks the Town of East Fremantle's 125th Anniversary
The Municipality of East Fremantle was created in 1897 when it separated from the greater Fremantle area. Today the Town is divided into four wards - Plympton, with its charming workers cottages which were established largely between 1890 and 1910, Preston Point, developed in the 1950's with houses enjoying the expansive views of the river, and Richmond and Woodside, both characterised by their fine brick and tile bungalows on generous quarter acre blocks with mature garden settings.
The Town has a population of almost 8,000 people, is 3.2 square kilometres and has 46km of sealed roads! Within our Town there are 9 places on the State Register of Heritage Places and 1,008 properties on the Local Heritage Survey, including 695 (A and B category) places on the heritage list under Local Planning Scheme No. 3.
'Whilst the current environment has prevented us from hosting an event to mark this milestone, we are proud to recognise our 125 years and highlight some of the history that has shaped and led us to where we are today, which is an inclusive community balancing growth, lifestyle and sustainability.
