Town of East Fremantle Launches Community Connect Support Program

The Town of East Fremantle is, as always, committed to supporting local residents and businesses, especially during this uncharted period of uncertainty.

As the spread of COVID-19 escalates, so does the understandable concern within our community. Social distancing, and the requirement for some to self-isolate, creates a new set of challenges for the Town and its residents.

Community Connect offers assistance to those most at high risk of being impacted by the threats of COVID-19, including seniors, people with a disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, Indigenous people, people in self-isolation and those that live alone.

For local residents who are in need of assistance, Town of East Fremantle staff (who are currently unable to undertake their normal duties) may be able to collect your shopping, tidy the garden, pick up mail, walk the dog or simply check in with a friendly phone call.

Requesting assistance is as simple as Community Connect making a call or sending a text.

Community connections can also be “organic” and organic group organisers are encouraged to provide a group contact to the Town of East Fremantle to enable opportunities to be shared, assistance to be provided on request and information made available directly.

Mayor O’Neill said: “Allen Street Helping Hands is a heart-warming example of community coming together. The newly formed WhatsApp group, started by my wife Suzanne, has 30 participants who are communicating via the app, asking questions, requesting assistance and offering help. I encourage other neighbourhoods in our Town to reach out to each other in this way.”

If you are aware of any community members who may be isolated or need assistance please consider sharing this information with them, or advise the Town so that we can contact them over coming days.
