Swan River Crossings - View Alignment Options and Have Your Say

Published on Wednesday, 12 May 2021 at 4:40:24 PM

Main Roads are continuing their planning and development on the Swan River Crossings Project, which will see the replacement of the Fremantle Traffic Bridge across the Swan River and construction of a new rail bridge.

This project involves road, passenger and freight rail, maritime, pedestrians and cyclists, and considerations of heritage and environmental issues. Once completed, the Swan River Crossings will consist of:
  • a new traffic bridge
  • a new rail bridge
  • separated pedestrian and cyclist facilities

The project aims to deliver improved safety for road users, modern standard pedestrian and cycling facilities, increased rail efficiencies and improved river navigation whilst acknowledging the history of this place as a crossing point of the Swan River.

Community consultation

Following feedback from the community and stakeholders during 2020, investigation has begun into alternative alignment options for the new bridges.

To learn more about the alignment options:

  • View the summary of alignment options
  • View the online visualisation tool below to see the alignment options from a variety of viewpoints. The tool is best viewed on a large screen. Please note that we are seeking feedback on the bridge alignment, not the design. Consultation on design will be conducted later in 2021.

Have your say

After viewing the alignment options, you can have your say by submitting a survey here. The survey will be open until Tuesday 1 June.

Your feedback will be incorporated into the final consideration of alignment options and help guide the final alignment recommendation.

After the Alignment Options Assessment phase, Main Roads will be undertaking design development work throughout 2021. They will be actively seeking stakeholder and community participation into heritage interpretation, bridge aesthetics, public amenity outcomes and the connectivity of pedestrian and cycling paths. If these, or any other aspects, are of interest to you, please register your interest on the survey in our visualisation tool to be involved in these future consultations.
