East Fremantle residents will be able to access the complete range of services available at the Fremantle Library under a shared services agreement signed on Friday 4 September 2020, including to the new Library when it opens next year.

At its Ordinary Council Meeting held in August 2020, the Town of East Fremantle signed on to a five-year agreement to share library services with their neighbouring Council, a result that Mayor O’Neill has described as a ‘win’ for residents.

“This agreement is a great result for our Town”, Mayor O’Neill explained, “as they are able to access an exciting range of print, online, early childhood literacy services and digital services at the City of Fremantle Library, but at a fraction of what it would cost us to create such services locally.”

He has thanked his fellow Councillors and Mayor of Fremantle, Dr Brad Pettitt, for assisting in bringing the Shared Library Services Agreement into being and has encouraged East Fremantle residents to take full advantage of all that is on offer, especially once the new Library opens which is expected in March 2021.

Mayor O’Neill explained that the Town would pay an annual contribution based on membership numbers , with the agreement in place for five years, with the option to renew in 2025.

“Libraries these days are very different places to those of old,” he said “they are welcoming and vibrant spaces, with services for people of all ages and abilities, and our residents can now access e-books, audiobooks, music, children's stories, movies and e-magazines as well as print resources. Those with an interest in genealogy can also access ‘Ancestry’ until September 30,” he said.

Residents of East Fremantle can access the Fremantle Library, located at Fremantle Oval, 70 Parry Street remantle, from Monday to Thursday 9am–6pm, Friday 9am–5pm, and on the weekends – Saturday 9am–1pm and Sunday 11am–3pm.

Details about the Library are available online including online membership and to peruse the Library’s online catalogue.
