Main Roads: Swan River Fremantle In-River Surveys and Investigations

Published on Tuesday, 1 December 2020 at 3:48:28 PM

From 7 December Main Roads will be undertaking environmental surveys and investigations in the Swan River near Fremantle.

Divers and support vessels will be in the water upstream and downstream of the Fremantle Rail and Traffic Bridges and the Stirling Bridge.

The surveys will measure sediment, swell and current movements to inform the Swan River Crossings Project.

Works will be undertaken during daylight hours. All vessels taking part in the works will display shapes and lights in accordance with the Prevention of Collisions at Sea Regulations 1983 at all times.

We will seek to minimise disruption for all river users. Navigational channels will remain open wherever possible. Intermittent closures of one navigational channel may be required to facilitate the works.

A spotter vessel will be present during operating hours. This spotter vessel will be clearly marked and monitoring VHF Channels 16 during operating hours. All vessels navigating through the bridges are encouraged to contact the spotter vessels prior to approaching the bridges. Call Sign – Spotter Vessel 1.

Residents seeking more information should visit Main Roads Swan River Crossings or contact 138 138.
