Keeping People and Dogs Safe and Healthy at Richmond Primary

Signs displaying the words “Dogs Prohibited” are now installed at entry points to the school and the school oval.  Residents and visitors are advised that now the signage has been installed, Town Rangers will be patrolling the school property and enforcing these new conditions, as prescribed by the West Australian Dog Act (1976).

We know that visitors enjoy bringing their dogs on the walk to school, and we encourage both dog walking generally and walking safely to school, however, in this case, the decision has been made to put health and safety first and ensure that dogs do not enter the school grounds.

This decision was not made lightly and was made jointly with the leadership of Richmond Primary School, in direct response to concerns expressed by parents at the school. Richmond Primary School will assist the Town in making the community aware of these new arrangements.

Our highest priority is to ensure we alleviate the stress experienced by students attending the school who are scared or wary of dogs for any reason and reduce the levels of canine excreta being left on school ovals and the subsequent health risks associated with such matter in playgrounds and sandpits, particularly for young children.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter.
