East Fremantle’s George Street Festival Sounding Good - RTRFM and Suzette Collective to Deliver Live Music and Broadcast

The Town of East Fremantle has partnered with live music curators and community radio to deliver a fresh new sound for its annual Festival that will add vibrancy to the event and share it with a broad audience throughout Perth.

On Thursday 26 August 2021, CEO Gary Tuffin met with Rhian Todhunter of RTRFM and Geraldine Rey of local East Fremantle business Suzette Collective, who have developed a partnership to hand pick an impressive line-up of musical talent who will perform on the day.

RTRFM for the first time in the festival’s history will operate a live broadcast featuring performances direct from George Street as well as interviews with locals and content related to the event’s theme of “Sustainable Street Party”, with the live stream available to listen from anywhere in the world.

Meeting at historic Dovenby House, recently repurposed by the Town as its Festival planning HQ, media and sustainability hub, Mr Tuffin was delighted to sign the agreement on behalf of the Town and was excited to hear plans for the musical aspects of the event.

“We have never done this before”, Mr Tuffin said, “and it is great to bring together a local, George Street business with community radio to select the best and most appropriate music that will be enjoyed by everyone on the day.”

A highlight in the Town’s annual calendar, residents and visitors had high expectations of the event (heightened due to the two-year wait due to the 2020 event being cancelled) and the Town is refreshing the format, while keeping the focus local and enlisting the support of residents and businesses in George Street.

He explained that planning was well underway with over 100 stallholders chosen including food and drink vendors, gifts, fashion, accessories, arts, crafts and homewares as well as stalls for community clubs, groups and associations, to bring the best of Perth to East Fremantle on Sunday 5 December 2021, 11am - 6pm.

“We invite everyone to save the date for the festival and to register their free ticket by following the event link from our website, and to follow the Town’s social media channels as musical artists are announced over the coming weeks and months,” Mr Tuffin said.

"RTRFM is excited to be sharing East Fremantle’s George Street Festival across Perth and beyond in a celebration of local community, and great music," Rhian Todhunter said.

Geraldine Rey said: “We breathe music, we dig local and we love RTRFM: it is a match made in heaven! At Suzette Collective, we are excited to have the opportunity to add our touch to this iconic festival.”

Residents should also keep an eye out for the next editions of the Talk of the Town newsletter.  The September edition, which goes out shortly, includes a four-page event guide lift-out to keep, and the November edition will highlight the musical acts that are now being secured plus a handy event map.

Those attending the event from outside East Fremantle are welcome to register their tickets now and visit the Town’s website (eastfremantle.wa.gov.au), Facebook (facebook.com/georgestreetfestival) and Instagram (@townofeastfremantle) feeds for updates, with video updates planned for TikTok and YouTube.
