COLLABORATIVE EFFORT ENSURES PEDESTRIAN SAFETY FOR BUSY INTERSECTION

Support from local MLA Lisa O’Malley has been instrumental in the Town of East Fremantle’s push to improve pedestrian safety at the intersection of Preston Point Road and Canning Highway.

Mayor O’Neill said that the Town’s ongoing concerns with pedestrian safety at the intersection were highlighted further a few months ago when a pedestrian required hospitalisation after they were hit by a car while trying to cross Canning Highway at the lights.

“I can’t thank Lisa enough for her support.  This intersection, one of the busiest in our Town, has been of concern for some time, and we are greatly relieved that the work is about to commence and improvements will be made,” said Mayor O’Neill.

“After having door knocked and held a Mobile Office in the area, I know how frequently this busy intersection is used by families, locals and older residents alike, and with community support, I’m so pleased we were able to deliver a positive outcome”, said Member for Bicton Lisa O’Malley MLA.

“I commend both the Town of East Fremantle and the Minister for Transport and Planning, Hon. Rita Saffioti MLA for their firm commitment to improving pedestrian safety”, said Lisa O’Malley.

Night works will commence 17 June until 31 July subject to weather.

Road users should be aware that lanes will be closed along Canning Hwy and at times Preston Point Rd will be closed with a detour put in place. Full resident access will be available during the closures.
