Last night (Sunday 6 December) a family-friendly celebration took place in Glasson Park where our community gathered to celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season after what has been a challenging year.
Hundreds of locals gathered in the popular park (which will soon boast a new mural!) to enjoy a range of community activities organised by volunteers and local businesses.
The Town gives sincere thanks to...
- Lions Club for running the very popular Lil Shopper Train AKA Christmas choo-choo (a big hit with the kids)
- Hurricane Paddling Crew for the Upcycled Card Making activity
- Yard Property for the very popular Sparkly Face Painting
- Mint Realty for the Santa Selfie Spot (who knew Santa's selfie game was so strong?)
- White House property for delicious ice confection treats by Pash Dessert Co, a company run by a local resident. These were consumed happily despite the cool conditions.
- The Glyde-in Singers for their uplifting rendition of favourite (and not so well-known) Christmas carols
- Glyde-in for access to power and water… enabling “Indra” to make another appearance (free chilled water refills).
At the Town of East Fremantle stand, many residents grabbed a copy of our new Community Calendar 2021 (now available FREE for local residents from our Town Hall) and found out about our other services for residents, and had chats with the elected members who came along to support the day including Cr Dean Nardi and Cr Kerry Donovan.
Residents also learned about how to have a Conscious Christmas by finding out about "Furoshiki" (Sustainable Gift Wrapping) and the gift of re-gifting with a Street Library display, a great way to fill the Town with the love of reading all through the year. A special thank you to the Town’s newest Little Librarian for bringing down her yet-to-be-installed library and loads of books.

Thanks also to everyone who gave generously to our Food Bank Festive Food Drive.
The event was held in an environmentally-friendly spirit, in keeping with the Town's new Sustainable Events Policy. Thank you to everyone who made mindful decisions about the management of their waste during the event.
The event culminated with Mayor O'Neill wishing all of the residents a happy festive season and officiating at the turning on of the Christmas lights in Glasson Park. The coloured lights beaming up into the mature trees in the park gave the evening a festive and vibrant glow. We are very pleased to advise that this new colourful addition to Glasson Park will be in place all year round!
