2019 Council Elections - nominees

Town of East Fremantle Council is comprised of nine (9) Elected Members, eight (8) Councillors and a Mayor. These Elected Members represent four wards. Each Ward is represented by two (2) Councillors.

Local government elections are held every two years on the third Saturday in October - in 2019 the election date is Saturday 19 October, 2019.

At each biennial election half of the seats on the Town of East Fremantle Council become vacant.

Close at 4:00 PM Thursday, 12 September 2019
Nominations must be lodged with the Returning Officer:
  • at any time during the above period by arrangement with the Returning Officer; or
  • between 2:00pm and 4:00 PM Thursday, 12 September 2019 (close of nominations) at the Town of East Fremantle, 135 Canning Highway - the Returning Officer will be at the Town Hall during this time.

Who can nominate to become an Elected Member?

Nominations can only be submitted to the Returning Officer responsible for the Town of East Fremantle local government elections once the nomination period opens. An effective nomination consists of the following:

Postal Voting

The Town’s elections are conducted as postal elections by the Western Australian Electoral Commission. The Commission appoints a Returning Officer who oversees the elections, which includes taking candidate nominations and supervising the count on election night.

Election packages are posted to all electors on the Town of East Fremantle roll approximately three weeks before election day. Every person enrolled on the electoral roll will be issued a ballot by mail and invited to complete the ballot and return it to the West Australian Electoral Commission in the envelope supplied.
The count commences at 6.00pm on Saturday 19 October 2019 and the results are normally available later that evening.  Voting in local government election is not compulsory.
